Newark — This photograph, taken in 1963 or 1964, shows a graduating class of the Scott College of Beauty Culture at the Krueger-Scott Mansion in Newark. The 26-room mansion was built between 1887 and 1889 by Gottfried Krueger, a German immigrant and beer baron. The mansion was built on what was then High Street, now Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The story goes that Krueger told his architect to “outdo” the home of fellow Newark brewery owner and competitor, Peter Ballantine. …(Read more)
