The spirit of Mary Glover Chase haunts a wire sculpture wearing her 130-year-old wedding dress at tea time. Artist Shawn Panepinto recreated the shape and tea set of Chase, the daughter of a prominent ship’s captain who, in 1880, married the son of a peg-legged stowaway who landed in Portsmouth and founded a successful clothing store.
In an adjacent bedroom, the ghosts of children in white christening dresses, embroided by artist Lynne Yamamoto, twirl slowly in midair.
