Modesto’s treasure, the McHenry Mansion, sits majestically on the corner of 15th and I streets. It has remained there for 128 years, since 1883.
It has survived many eras, beginning with the first when the streets were ungraded and unclean; when the vehicles going by were pulled by horses; and when the children, walking along the dirt sidewalks, were headed for the Brick Schoolhouse at 14th and I streets or later, for the 17th Street school just three blocks away.
