Bannerman Castle was constructed by Frank Bannerman IV, who was once the world’s biggest dealer in military surplus and one of the most controversial figures in America.
Born in Dundee in 1851, Bannerman and his family emigrated to the USA three years later and settled in Brooklyn, New York.
After starting out selling scrap metal recovered from the docks, the teenager soon moved into buying up guns, ammunition, uniforms and other gear from the American Civil War.
