At the Sands Point Preserve on Long Island, you can step back in time to a world of opulence.
The 216-acre public park includes castles, hiking trails, formal gardens and views of the Long Island Sound. Part of the original Guggenheim Estate, the preserve is said to be the inspiration for the setting of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel “The Great Gatsby.”
The preserve is “a culturally significant historic site because of its ties to the Gold Coast era, and it is a natural resource that we hope everyone will integrate into their lives throughout the year,” says Beth Horn, managing director of the Sands Point Preserve Conservancy. “Visitors can enjoy adult and family nature education programs, cultural events, seasonal celebrations, fitness and wellness programs and more.”
