SHIZUOKA–Feudal fortress Sunpu Castle may yet be restored to its former glory, but first excavation work must be carried out on the ruins of the keep’s stone base.

The city government plans to spend 600 million yen ($5.97 million) on a four-year project to study the site where Tokugawa Ieyasu (1542-1616), the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, once resided.
