A historic castle where Mary Queen of Scots was taken after escaping from a nearby island where she was being held prisoner has gone up on the market for £1.5million.
The Catholic monarch of Scotland, imprisoned at Lochleven Castle by protestant nobles after the ascension of her infant son James VI, is thought to have stayed at Cleish Castle shortly after escaping in May 1568.
