Do’s and don’ts when in Edinburgh – Star2.com

If you are fortunate enough to travel to the British Isles for a week, do as I say, not as I did.

Scotland for a week in late December last year – with a quick trip down to London – was a revelation: sparkly, festive, not that cold, endlessly interesting.

It was also punctuated by more than a few dumb decisions, which, in the interest of consumer reporting, I thought I’d share with you.

So many travel stories are written by experts who did everything right – which is … (View original article)

Scottish castle moved to JAPAN brick by brick to house Christmas museum – Sunday Post

AN actor relocated a Scottish castle brick by brick to Japan – so he could house a museum dedicated to Christmas inside.

Lockheart Castle sits in a 25-acre wonderland two hours from Tokyo and is home to a World Santa And Christmas Museum.

There are more Santas from around the world there than you could shake a Christmas cracker at – 1100 and counting.

And it’s all the brainchild of one of Japan’s most famous actors, Masahiko Tsugawa.

Luxury hotel Christmas: What do you get for your €2,000?

While most Irish people will gather at home with their families to enjoy a traditional turkey and ham dinner on Christmas Day, a large number will be dining in style at some of the country’s top hotels. And paying top dollar for the privilege.

The Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin, the grand old dame of the industry here, will host more than 500 guests on Christmas Day for a “decadent, traditional five-course Christmas feast”.

The hotel is charging €195 for lunch per adult an… (View original article)

Antwerp Mansion Reviewed | Manchester Confidential

HIPSTERS, beards and the ‘Northern Quarter type’ are joining a list of banned clichéd and overused words at Manchester Confidential (Yes, they bloody are, Ed).

Unfortunately in a review of Antwerp Mansion, the ‘need-to-know’ venue hidden away in the grungy depths of Fallowfield, these words are proving hard to avoid.

It’s anti-establishment, anti-control, anti-pretention, anti-toilet paper, anti-glass cups and anti-deodorant. All complete with graffiti, face-painting and c… (View original article)
