Highland Castle future in doubt after Russian owner jailed for £4million fraud | Press and Journal


The future of a Highland castle has been plunged into uncertainty after its Russian owner was jailed for 18 months for carrying out a £4million fraud to help fund his lavish lifestyle.

Sergey Fedotov, who purchased Castle Grant for £1million in 2014, has admitted a massive embezzlement while he was head of the Russian Authors’ Society (RAO), which collects royalty payments on behalf of writers.

Police and staff practice responding to emergency threat at Warwick Castle | The Leamington Observer


Emergency procedures are being put to the test at Warwick Castle.

The exercise, taking place this evening (June 21) will test how staff and emergency services respond to a suspicious package incident.

Police, fire and ambulance services are all supporting the exercise.

Residents are warned they may see more blue-light emergency vehicles than usual in the area during the operation.

Supt Emma Bastone explained it was not in response to any threat.

Lincoln Castle named UK’s most popular castle in national poll


Lincoln Castle has been voted the UK’s favourite castle in an online national poll consisting of over 10,000 voters.

Holiday Lettings (owned by Trip Advisor) ran the poll which saw Lincoln Castle come out on top with 5,116 votes (43%) defeating second-placed Banburgh Castle by over 3,000 more votes.

Windsor Castle, which has had a long history of association with the royal family and a preferred weekend getaway for Queen Elizabeth, gained only 96 votes.
