Glamis tribute planned for founding father of Aberdeen-Angus breed – The Courier


The founder of the world’s most successful beef breed is to be honoured with a memorial at Glamis Castle.

Hugh Watson began farming Aberdeen-Angus cattle in the 19th Century near Newtyle, starting a bloodline that has a reputation for its quality and character.

The Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society, which champions the breed across the UK and Ireland from its base in Perth, has plans to build a granite memorial to Watson in the shadow of 14th-century Glamis Castle.

Castle Mona in ‘fair health’, DEFA Minister tells the Keys – Isle of Man Today


The long-closed Castle Mona is in fair health, a government Minister told MHKs.

Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot was responding to a House of Keys question from Douglas North MHK David Ashford who asked what action was being taken by the environmental health division to ‘prevent further deterioration’ of the listed landmark.
