Alnwick Castle, Northumberland
Leave a castle for 1,000 years and the chances are it’ll pick up a ghost or two. Northumberland’s Alnwick Castle has a cracker: a hunchback vampire-cum-zombie, rising nightly from a human grave, first documented by 12th-c… (View original article)

Discussions stalled on Brandeis castle demolition – News – Wicked Local Waltham – Waltham, MA

Ignacio Laguarda Waltham News Tribune @ilaguarda

Brandeis University’s Usen Castle recently made a list of endangered historic properties in the state, but little effort or collaboration has taken place over the last six months to save the structure.

The school is hoping to demolish all but two towers of the 88-year-old castle in order to build new housing for students, but the Waltham Historical Commission issued a one-year demolition delay on the project back in March, with… (View original article)

Secret History of Italy: the Prisons of Castel Sant’Angelo | L’Italo-Americano – Italian American bilingual news source

When visiting Rome, I like staying close to the Vatican: there’s something magic in seeing “il cupolone” first thing in the morning that I wouldn’t change for anything. There’s something else I regularly do when there, I always cross the Tiber on Ponte Sant’Angelo. “How touristy” you may think and, yes, you’re right, I don’t deny to succumb every now and then to the guilty pleasure of behaving like a first timer in Rome, even if I know the capital pretty well by now. Yet, that bridge is just… (View original article)

Aspen Times Weekly: A taste of Scotland’s Skibo Castle | AspenTimes.com

There are some moments in life that you never forget — the birth of your children, meeting the love of your life — and for the very lucky few, a stay at The Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle in the Scottish Highlands.

Tucked away on a peninsula of Dornoch Firth, four hours north of Edinburg, is Skibo, a very real castle, the kind that we Americans once tried to emulate (i.e. copy), when Gilded Age millionaires attempted to out-gaudy their wealthier friends. But while the nouveau riche s… (View original article)
