RUNNING Elvaston Castle and its grounds has cost Derbyshire County Council more than £5 million in the years since it revealed who it wants to take control of the site.

The authority, which owns the historic site, intends to lease the castle to Highgate Sanctuary to save cash.

Highgate Sanctuary has been lined up to take control of Elvaston Castle but the county council is still spending millions there.
