You’ve got to admire feisty Glen Cove, aka “Moscow on the Sound,” where the locals have been living with the Soviet menace since the era of mutually assured destruction.

With nuclear warheads poised to annihilate New York in the early ‘60s, defiant denizens lined the streets and pelted Nikita Khrushchev’s limo with tomatoes. It’s unclear if the Soviets filed a formal protest.
