The Castle of St. George in Mantua is one of the city’s most emblematic monuments dating from the days of the Gonzaga Court. Erected at the end of the 14th century by Captain Francesco I Gonzaga, it was transformed into the family residence by Ludovico I and served for many years as the home of Isabella d’Este, Francesco Gonzaga’s wife and one of the most celebrated noblewomen of the Renaissance.
